Devotional Reflection
Faith is not a leap into darkness. It is a step into the light of God's revealed Word. Hebrews 11:1 gives us the classic definition: 'the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' True faith has substance—it is grounded in the character and promises of God, not in our wishes or feelings.
One of the most disarming moments in the Gospels is the father who cries out to Jesus: 'Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.' This broken, honest prayer moved Jesus to heal his son. God does not require perfect faith. He works through faith the size of a mustard seed.
Faith grows through feeding on God's Word. Romans 10:17 tells us that 'faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.' If your faith feels small or weak, spend time in Scripture. Let God speak to you through His promises until they feel more real than your circumstances.
Abraham, the father of faith, staggered not at the impossibility before him. Why? Because he was 'fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was also able to perform.' That is the heart of faith—trusting that God's word is more reliable than what we can see.
Today, take one promise from God's Word and stand on it. That is faith in action.
A Prayer for Faith
Lord, I believe—help my unbelief. Build my faith through Your Word. Where doubt has crept in, replace it with confidence in Your promises. I want to be like Abraham, fully persuaded of Your faithfulness. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight, trusting You even when circumstances seem impossible. Amen.
