Devotional Reflection

There comes a moment for every believer when they hit the wall—when every reservoir of personal strength runs dry and there is simply nothing left. It is in that very moment that God's invitation rings out: 'They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.'

The word 'renew' in Isaiah 40:31 means to exchange—to trade in your depleted human strength for God's limitless divine strength. This is not self-improvement. It is supernatural exchange. You bring your empty hands; God fills them with eagle's wings.

Paul understood this paradox deeply. When he begged God to remove the thorn in his flesh, God answered: 'My strength is made perfect in weakness.' The very thing we see as an obstacle—our limitations, our inadequacy—becomes the stage on which God's glory shines brightest.

This is not passive resignation. 'Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might' (Ephesians 6:10) is a command. But the strength we draw from is not our own. It comes from abiding in Christ, from time in prayer, from trusting God's promises more than our own feelings.

You may feel like you cannot take another step. But God promises to carry you.

A Prayer for Strength

Lord, I have run out of my own strength. I come to You empty-handed. You said that those who wait on You will renew their strength—I am waiting. Fill me with Your power. Where I am weak, be my strength. Where I want to give up, give me Your courage. I trade my exhaustion for Your energy today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
