Devotional Reflection

Marriage is one of God's most profound gifts—and one of the most challenging callings. God designed it not just for companionship, but as a living picture of the relationship between Christ and the church. This is why the enemy works so hard to undermine it.

Ephesians 5 gives us the framework: husbands are called to a sacrificial, self-giving love—the kind Jesus showed when He gave Himself for the church. Wives are invited to respond with respect and partnership. Both calls require humility, grace, and the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit.

Marriage is not fifty-fifty. It is two people each giving one hundred percent—not keeping score, not waiting for the other to change first, but asking, 'How can I love this person the way Christ loved me?'

If your marriage is struggling, do not give up on it too quickly. Seek counsel. Pray together. And if there is hardness of heart, ask God to soften it—both your partner's and your own. He is the God who restores broken things.

And if you are in an unsafe marriage, please know: God does not call you to remain in danger. Seek wise, pastoral counsel.

A Prayer for Marriage

Lord, I bring my marriage to You today. Where there is distance, draw us together. Where there are wounds, bring healing. Give me the grace to love like Christ loves—sacrificially, patiently, and without keeping a record of wrongs. Protect our home, sanctify our union, and make us better together than we could ever be apart. Amen.
