The Still Waters

Anxiety

When worry overwhelms you, Scripture points to the God who carries every burden.

Devotional Reflection

Anxiety is one of the most common struggles of our age. The mind races, the chest tightens, and the worst possible outcomes play on repeat. If you are living with anxiety, you are not alone—and you are not failing. Even the great Psalmists cried out in fear and uncertainty. The honest laments of Scripture give us permission to bring our real selves before God.

What does God say to the anxious heart? He does not say 'just stop worrying.' He says something far more powerful: 'Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you.' The word 'cast' means to throw with force—to hurl your burdens onto God. This is not passive acceptance. It is an active, deliberate act of trust.

Philippians 4:6-7 gives us a pathway through anxiety: bring everything to God in prayer, with thanksgiving, and the peace that surpasses understanding will guard your heart. The thanksgiving is key—it shifts our eyes from what could go wrong to what God has already done.

You do not have to figure out tomorrow today. God holds tomorrow. Your only task is to trust Him in this moment.

A Prayer for Anxiety

Father, I confess that anxiety has gripped my heart and I need You. I throw my worries at Your feet right now—all of them. You are bigger than every fear, every worst-case scenario, every unknown. Fill me with Your peace that I cannot manufacture on my own. Help me to trust You with tomorrow. Thank You that You care for me. Amen.
