Day 21 of 30
What Peace Actually Feels Like
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
Colossians 3:15 — KJV
We begin the final movement of this journey here: not with a formula for peace, but with a description of what genuine peace feels like when it arrives — and an invitation to let it rule.
The word 'rule' in Colossians 3:15 is brabeuo — to act as an umpire or referee. Let peace be the umpire in your hearts. When a decision presents itself, when fear rises, when anxiety begins its spiral — let peace be the one who calls it. Is this of God? Does it produce peace or agitation? Let peace rule.
But first: what does peace actually feel like? Not the absence of emotion — peace is not numbness. Not the suppression of fear — peace coexists with feeling. What Scripture describes as the peace of God is something more like a settled quality to the center of your experience. The surface can be turbulent — circumstances still present, concerns still real — and yet something underneath it holds steady.
It feels like being able to breathe. It feels like a loosened grip. It feels like being able to think clearly again, without the fog of dread coloring everything. It feels like being able to be present to the people you love without being half-absent in worry. It is not euphoria. It is something quieter and more durable than that.
Paul says we are called to this. It is not a bonus for the spiritually advanced. It is the inheritance of anyone who belongs to Christ. And the call is to let it rule — actively, daily, as a practice of choosing peace over agitation when both are available.
You are called to this. Let it rule today.
Peace Challenge
Peace Challenge: When a decision or worry presents itself today, ask: 'Does this produce peace or agitation in my spirit?' Let the answer guide you. Practice letting peace be your umpire.
Today’s Prayer
God, I want peace to actually rule in me — not just visit occasionally. Where agitation has been running my decisions, let peace take over. I receive the inheritance you have called me into. Rule in my heart today. I am thankful. Amen.
Journal Prompt
