Day 8 of 14
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1 — KJV
One word carries the weight of this verse: now. Not eventually. Not after sufficient growth or adequate repentance or enough good years. Now — present tense, at this moment, in this specific season of your life, with whatever you are carrying from last week and last year and every year before that.
The verdict is already in, and it is not guilty. This is what Paul means by 'no condemnation.' The Greek is katakrima — a judicial verdict of punishment, a declaration of guilt that demands a penalty. Paul says there is none. Not diminished condemnation. Not conditional condemnation. None. For those who are in Christ, the case has been decided — not by their performance, but by his.
For many believers, this verse is known intellectually and not received personally. There is a persistent internal courtroom that runs alongside the theological knowledge — replaying failures, issuing verdicts, demanding payment for debts that have already been paid. The work of this day is not to argue with the theology. It is to notice that courtroom and to bring Romans 8:1 into it. The verdict has already been declared by the only judge who matters. The only question is whether you will live from it.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, I know this verse. I have not always believed it for myself. Speak it directly into the places where I am still holding myself in condemnation. The verdict is yours to give — and you have given it. Help me to receive it. Amen.
